We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Manager (Ocean) to join our dynamic team in the West Midlands. As the Business Development Manager (Ocean), you will be responsible for driving business growth and expanding our client base in the ocean freight industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic business plans to achieve company growth targets and expand market share in the ocean freight sector.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including prospecting, lead generation, and conversion of leads into clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including shipping lines, freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and other relevant industry partners.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs to stay ahead of the market and develop innovative business solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including operations, pricing, customer service, and finance, to ensure seamless execution of services and deliver excellent customer experience.
  • Negotiate and finalize business contracts, pricing agreements, and service level agreements with clients, ensuring profitability and sustainability.
  • Monitor industry developments, regulatory changes, and global trade dynamics to anticipate challenges and identify opportunities for business growth.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive presentations, proposals, and sales materials to potential clients, showcasing our services and value proposition.
  • Track sales performance and provide regular reports, forecasts, and analysis to the management team.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to build brand awareness and foster professional relationships.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of success in business development, sales, or account management within the ocean freight industry.
  • Deep understanding of the ocean freight market, industry trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Strong network of contacts within the shipping lines, freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and other relevant industry stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain client relationships effectively.
  • Ability to think strategically, identify business opportunities, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Results-driven mindset with a strong focus on achieving targets and driving business growth.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Exceptional presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Flexibility to travel as required to meet clients and attend industry events.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in business development, sales, or account management within the ocean freight industry.
  • Previous experience in managing and negotiating complex sales contracts and agreements.
  • Familiarity with CRM software and sales reporting tools.
