We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Customs Clerk to join our dynamic team in North Humberside. As a Customs Clerk Senior, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with customs regulations and facilitating the smooth movement of goods across international borders. Your expertise in customs procedures, documentation, and regulations will contribute to our organization’s success in navigating the complexities of global trade.


  • Customs Compliance: Ensure compliance with all customs regulations and requirements, including tariff classifications, valuation, origin, and duty management.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Prepare and process accurate customs documents, including import/export declarations, invoices, permits, licenses, and other relevant paperwork. Maintain organized records of all customs-related activities.
  • Customs Clearance: Liaise with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to arrange and coordinate customs clearance activities, ensuring timely and efficient movement of goods.
  • Tariff Determination: Analyze product descriptions and specifications to determine appropriate tariff classifications and duty rates.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential customs compliance issues and implement appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
  • Troubleshooting: Resolve any customs-related issues or discrepancies promptly and efficiently to minimize delays or disruptions in the supply chain.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Coordinate with internal departments, suppliers, and external partners to facilitate seamless customs operations and provide necessary guidance on customs-related matters.
  • Regulations Monitoring: Stay up-to-date with changes in customs regulations, trade agreements, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and inform relevant stakeholders of any updates or implications.
  • Training and Mentoring: Provide guidance and support to junior customs clerks, sharing your expertise and knowledge to enhance the overall performance of the team.


  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a customs clerk or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of customs procedures, regulations, and documentation.
  • Knowledge: Sound knowledge of international trade practices, customs laws, and regulations, including tariff classifications, valuation, origin determination, and duty management.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex customs-related information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate completion of customs documents and adherence to compliance requirements.
